WASHINGTON COUNTY, UT The Healthy Dixie Council has selected Steve Garcia as the recipient of the Healthy Dixie Award for January 2012. Steve has been instrumental in establishing the Hurricane City Pickle Ball courts.

“The thing that impressed me most about Winny, was her positive, enthusiastic attitude and the impact her attitude played in the hearts of those who worked at the Centennial Park Garden with her.”, says Gloria Shakspeare, who nominated Winny for the award. “It was a spirit of comradely, cohesiveness,  all working  together to make sure the garden was a success.  She had a deep interest  and love for each of her fellow workers, and  they did her. It is my hope that Winny's love and enthusiasm  will carry on in the hearts of all the patrons who work throughout the Community Gardens.”
“The Healthy Dixie Award is an opportunity to recognize people or organizations who are taking action to improve the health of our community”, explains Jane Lambert, the Council president. “The Healthy Dixie Council wants to thank them for their contribution.”

“Steve petitioned the Hurricane City Council to fund the building of Pickle Ball courts. He would not take no for an answer, and was successful in getting the project funded.”, says Arthur LeBaron, who nominated Steve for the award. “Once funded, Steve was involved in the design of the courts, and gave many valuable suggestions which were incorporated into the construction of the courts. During the construction process, Steve began organizing Pickle Ball clinics and tournaments.”
