WASHINGTON COUNTY, UT – The Healthy Dixie Council has selected Steve Garcia as the recipient of the Healthy Dixie Award for January 2012. Steve has been instrumental in establishing the Hurricane City Pickle Ball courts.
“Steve petitioned the Hurricane City Council to fund the building of Pickle Ball courts. He would not take no for an answer, and was successful in getting the project funded.”, says Arthur LeBaron, who nominated Steve for the award. “Once funded, Steve was involved in the design of the courts, and gave many valuable suggestions which were incorporated into the construction of the courts. During the construction process, Steve began organizing Pickle Ball clinics and tournaments.”
“The Healthy Dixie Award is an opportunity to recognize people or organizations who are taking action to improve the health of our community”, explains Locke Ettinger, the Council president. “The Healthy Dixie Council wants to thank them for their contribution.”
Healthy Dixie is a local coalition of citizens, businesses, city governments, the school district, and health entities working together to promote health and wellness.
